Britney Spears: I will never work in the music industry again

Following reports that she was preparing a comeback to the recording studio that appeared last week, Britney Spears declared that she would “never return to the music industry”.

The pop singer was replying to rumors circulating in US media that she was in the process of finding songwriters for her tenth studio album.

“To be clear, the majority of the news is garbage!” the singer exclaimed on Instagram.

They’re always saying that I’m working with random folks on my forthcoming record. I’m never going back to work in the music business!”

Certain media sources had indicated that Charlie XCX and Julia Michaels had been enlisted as collaborators.

Spears, however, clarified that she simply composed music for enjoyment and disclosed that, over the previous two years, she had created more than 20 songs for other people.

The singer, whose singles include Baby One More Time, Oops!… I Did It Again, and Toxic, stated, “I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!!!”

Spears’s first new song since being freed from a conservatorship that governed nearly every part of her life was released in August 2022.

Spears made her musical comeback with the duet “Hold Me Closer,” featuring Sir Elton John, following a six-year break.

Although she has previously made indications that she is hesitant to enter the music business again, this is the first time she has categorically denied that she will not be doing so in response to the demands of her ardent fan base.

The Woman in Me, her autobiography that she released last year, described her experiences living under conservatorship and disclosed that she had a medical abortion while dating Justin Timberlake.

“Pushing forward in my music career is not my focus at the moment,” the singer wrote in a letter at the time. It’s time for me to truly discover who I am, rather than being someone that appeals to other people.”
